Funeral Home
The funeral home is located at the waters edge beside the bridge to Achill Island. The site was the last stop on the former Achill railway-now the Great Western Greenway. The building design is simple and traditional in form. The reposing room is disconnected from the outside world containing a timber clad curved roof and large windows that face out to sea providing a tranquil and reflective space. The entrance portico by contrast is glazed on all sides looking toward the village. Public and private areas are segregated by bespoke stained glass screens echoing the previous heritage of the island.
“The large windows facing out to sea have created a spiritual and calming effect which has been noted by those that have visited and used the building”.
